Welcome to the January 2010 Newsletter. Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter.
Thank you to everyone who purchased Tasting Harmony. In the past month I've received many requests
from saxophonists regarding different ways of practicing with tasting harmony. This book has so many uses on so many
different levels, that I decided to record myself practicing with some of the tracks. I've transcribed all of the tracks so that you can see just how I work with the book.
I've demsontrated some very simple techniques for working with Tasting Harmony, such as playing ascending and descending chord arpeggios, on minor 7th chords as well as 9ths against the recorded 3rds, seven-to-three voiceleading on dominant chords, then moving a bit more advanced to the well-known CMAR lick in two different contexts. Getting even more advanced, I demonstrate a cool dimished pattern in doubletime and then push my technical limits to demonstrate the lick in quardruple time! Finally, I create an improvisation using 3rds as target notes on dominant chords.
As an added extra value feature of this new book, I'm going to post a new lick or pattern each month as a free download to use with the book.
Although the main idea behind the book is to bask in the harmonic beauty of the whole notes in the circle of fourths, tasting each of the 81 flavors as you sing (or play) along with the tracks, there are many more uses of equal value:
-Perfect for working on intonation.
-Great for practicing any lick over any chord in all 12 keys.
-Practice intervals against the notes being sung on the CD tracks.
-Work chord and scale patterns in 8th notes, double-time, and beyond.
-Great for targeting problem harmonic areas of tunes -- can't quite hear the maj9th on the mi7b5 in the tune?
Work with track 61 for a few minutes a day for a week and you'll be familiar with this great sound.
Have fun with the new musical examples and demo tracks!
Sincerely,
Greg Fishman
